Skoda Fabia 2002 Radio - Intermittent fault.

Featured Replies

Radio no sound when turning on and then if you turn up the volume full it starts working (then turn down to normal volume). Occasionally when driving you loose sound through one or both speakers and you turn up the volume and mostly it comes back. Quiet annoying but before trying to replace any ideas. Have taken it out and checked all obvious wiring but nothing seems to be amiss.

Any clues would be appreciated. It's with the cassette and there not too expensive on flea bay without code but it would be nice just to fix this one if possible.

Thanks

Sounds like a fault in the unit itself to me.

Having similar issues with SWMBO's to the point where we lose power and sound (but not illumination).

Appears to be a few broken wires just out of the connector blocks on the rear of the head unit where it has been jammed into the space available and, over the years, bent the wires to breaking point (internally, so not visible).

Took radio out and couldn't see any obvious problems with connectors and radio, however when refitting tested without unit in dashboard and gently wiggled cable at rear of facia with speaker wire and power and got intermittent failure so assume must be dodgy wiring in this cable somewhere behind dashboard. So arranged it as loose as possible with everything working, replaced unit and it seems ok. I suppose turn of the steering wheel or something at the back might dislodge it again we'll have to see.

Anyone know of any issues with wear in this cable from something behind the dashboard?
