Passat Owner looking for VagCom Help

Featured Replies

Hello Folks. I am Alun, hence the username and I am from Merthyr.

I am looking for some help if anyone is close to Merthyr who has a VAGCOM.

I am looking to get my Sat Nav updated, I have RNS510 and I need it updating to v10 maps. I have the v10 disc, but sadly I also need to update the firm/software. I also need a BT MOdule coding to work with the RNS510.

If anyone can help I would be most grateful.

Cheers In Advance.

I know this is NOT a PASSAT forum, I am a member there but the closest I can fid anyone with a VAGCOM is 350 miles away.

Many Thanks

AJ

Welcome to Briskoda.

I know Hereford isn't that close to Merthyr, but if you are prepared to head over here, I can sort those out for you.

Mate, you are my saviour. The reason I came here is because I searched for Vagcom in Merthyr and your name and this forum popped up so I joined and hey presto you appear.

When you have time can you text me on 07940 523 523 and I will let you know what I need doing, bought a BT Module off eBay and am awaiting delivery. If you want just text me your number and I will call you back.

First thing to do is source the right firmware for your Columbus. Can you get the part number (the 9 or 10 character code in large print) and the HW & SW numbers. With these I can point you at the correct firmware or send you a disc.

This will probably wipe your Columbus so you'll need to instal maps (you have a disk), music & any custom POI's.

You may find that once you've fitted the BT module it will partly work. VCDS coding will sort any other issues and adjust it to your liking.

If you click on my name (above my avatar pic on the left if you are on a computer) then you'll see an option to 'Send PM'. Please use that to detail what you need doing and we can communicate through that for now.

Sadly, I have not been a member here long enough it seems to allow me to send you a PM.

I can tell you what I need doing and what I have thus far...

Need Doing

(1) I need the BT Module coding to the car.

(2) I need maps Updating to v10

(3) I need Software/Firmware on RNS510 Updating.

I Have The Following

Version 10 Maps

BT Module (Not Yet Delivered) Part No 5K0 035 730 B

Not Yet Sourced

Software/Firmware Update for the RNS510

On my RNS510 the 'SECRET' menu was NOT activated so without VCDS/VAGCOM or physically removing the unit I cannot say what Software/Firmware this system is running. If you have a software update for this unit all so well and good, if you have not I can get it but would need you to read the Software/Firmware before I can update as if the incorrect update is installed it could 'Brick' the unit.

As far as I can see that is all that I need doing. I am however looking for another COMPLETE RNS510 (Unit, GPS ANTENNA and all related items) for my other B6 so if anyone knows of a system for sale please get in touch.

What year was the Columbus manufactured? I really need to know this so that I can send you in the right direction for the firmware to run before we meet up.

If it is 2010-2013, I have an up to date firmware disk, but it takes about 55 mins to run and instal. If you can sort firmware and maps before we meet, then I can code the BT pretty quickly.

Please advise the part number for your Columbus and we can go from there as there is not much point me coding the BT and then updating the firmware as there mat be conflicts between new and old hardware / firmware.

I have a spare GPS antenna, but that is all I have from your list.

I have no idea when the RNS510 was manufactured but the car is on a 58 Plate. If that helps. Maybe it will take two trips to you as I would need you to read whatever you need to read and go away and source the correct software/firmware.

I have the v10 disc and I can get the software/firmwar but would need you to read the machine to find out what software it is running to enable me to obtain the correct update.

Just an added note, I need to travel to Strensham tomorrow afternoon, leaving Merthyr about 330pm, if you were available I could travel to Hereford first. If that is suitable to you.

Great News!!!! The BT Module I purchased off eBay arrived this morning. Swapped over and all is fine apart from the spring loaded keypad which I have been told will need coding.

Just managed this weekend to remove the Brushed Aluminium Trim around the RNS510 so I can find out the Software/Firmware this is running to enable me to Update to v10 maps, but I got no Torx Bits

Things are looking UP.

AJ

Try Allen keys as they should fit the torx screws.

When you've got the part numbers etc. I'll point you at the right firmware. Get that done and we can meet on Friday afternoon to sort the coding if you are free.

What's the spring loaded keypad though?
