Creaky Creaky

Featured Replies

Notice the front of the car creaked when I sat inside yesterday.

Pushing down on the drivers side wheel arch was like rocking an old chair back and forth.

Today i has noticed a slight vibration through the steering when also.

All points to our special friend the bushes.

As I have not changed these before, I may as well change them all.

How many do I need to buy? i.e, 1 for each corner I would assume?

Thanks for your help in advance

Not really sure why vertical movement equals bushes that are known to knock under lateral force? They also tend not to creak but knock as it's the wishbone banging at the inside of the console through the wall of the bush. I'd look at the suspension personally or at least pop the wheels to full lock and look at the bushes but i'd be surprised if it were them.

If it is then you need a pair of console bushes, I suggest Powerflex for ease of install and they come with a lifetime warranty so after you do them once you'll not need to do them again. If you would prefer a more standard bush then Meyle HD's are cheap and come with a 4 year warranty.

I do have a creaking from the front of the car and as you suggest above it may be the suspension... any ideas about why it would be making such a sound

When I first lowered my car it was creaking, I just locked the wheels over and sprayed WD40 on the anti roll bar D bushes and the lower arm front bushes and console bushes and after a few times of lubing them up after them a few days apart they've been fine for probably a year now. Try spraying one set of bushes at a time to see if it cures it and you'll soon know which bush it is

PSB are also a good shout for console bushes. Lifetime warranty too. £20 for a pair.

Your wishbones have failed.... either get some bushes (probably the rear) or just buy the wishbones (in a pair) on Eurocarparts, if you don't want to fanny around unbushing

If the wishbone itself had failed he'd know about it! As above knackered wishbone bushes would normally knock as the end of the wishbone hits the inner face of the console and by putting it on full lock to the right and looking at the drivers side console you'd see if they had tearing to the bush (sounds painful!), not a creak as described.

Coilovers of unknown quality are of unknown quality. Even Spax kit has been known to creak so no-name stuff creaking doesn't surprise me. Liberal application of WD40 directly above your brakes probably isn't the way i'd personally go but I can see why others may think it's a good idea. The normal way this is solved/bodged is by putting covers on the springs which would involve stripping the kit anyway. I'm not a fan of this either as they will just wear through over time but it's better than WD40 in my mind.
