strange noise coming from the NSF Wheel?

Featured Replies

Ive noticed a noise developing on my nearside front wheel, its a whirring sound that sounds like the tread on a mountain bike tyre (if that makes sense to anyone?)

Its only when that whel has load on it, so it doesnt make the sound when going round let hand corners.

Can anyone help or give me an ides of what it might be ?

Thanks,

Jack M

Wheel bearing ?

Seeing as it's one side only my money's on wheel bearing or drop link. More likely a drop link (RHS/ O/S) IMHO

just bare in mind that a lot of Mk1 fabia did not have a seal fitted on the drive shaft to prevent water ingress to the wheel bearing through the hub.

if you have to change the wheel bearing ensure you get a seal

^^ I didn't know that! I thought they had a sealed bearing. If it's whirring it's more than likely a wheel bearing on the way out.

Thanks for the comments, been doing some reading and it would seem this is what it is, it also seems a bit of a lottery which bearing has actually gone.

Is it a fairly easy DIY job or is it a garage job? Any places local to derby that anyone would recommend?

Ta :)

Unless you have a 2ton press at a minimum pay a back street garage for the minimal cost involved. Wheel bearings are one if the few jobs I'll no longer do by hand, the vice I broke doing the last one was worth more to me than the minimal labour charge to have the whole job done. Parts range from £29 for a 3rd party known brand up to £95ish for genuine bearing/hub. You van get two for £40 on the bay but that's a little two cheap, even for me.

It's not drop links though, they click/clunk over bumps, not get louder the faster you go/make more noise cornering.

I had a slight noise on my MK2 which was getting right on my tits I just changed both sides as a precaution - Problem solved
