Wash process for a unloved car......

Featured Replies

Fabia needs some TLC, I'll admit washing it is low on my list, below hooning and fixing it, but I think it needs some loving. I've never been into cleaning it more than running a wash mitt over it every few weeks so it'll need some tidying up. Is the following process about right?

Snowfoam

Wash/Shampoo

Clay

Polish

Wax

About right?

Yes

What products are you going to use?

Could we add 'sealant' to the end of that list?

I'm about to do the same with a Meguires Winter Restoration kit (because I got it cheap) and finish off with Sonax BSD.

I think a sealant on top of wax is a bad idea...though the other way round is fine.

For me a wax is a sealant, so I don't see much difference.

However, the method works well for me, but I would do the polishing by machine, only because I have one, and it's a lot less effort than doing it by hand. :D

Aren't people using Sonax BSD on top of wax?

Maybe I should have said 'quick detailer' instead?

Sonax BSD is a sealer. Yes..but its formulated to work on top of a waxes as well as sealants without affecting it

Most sealants do not work like this, so always add a wax on top of a sealant ...not the other way round

So:

Snowfoam

Wash/Shampoo

Clay

Polish

Wax

Sonax BSD used as Quick Detailer

would be a good process?

Yes...but you don't need to clay or polish very often

Just once or twice a year

Thanks Chris. I'd picked that up from links you've posted in other threads / forums.

Was planning on going through the whole process now and then possibly at the end of the summer / pre-winter and trying to keep on top of it all during the interim period with:

Snow foam

Shampoo

Sonax BSD

Should I use Sonax BSD every wash (monthly) or every other was (bi-monthly)?

I'm sure you'll all suggest washing more often than that, but the reality is that it won't and the car doesn't warrant it. Although I might change my mind after its been polished for the first time and all the swirl marks are gone.

If you only wash it as little as that, then add Sonax BSD after every wash

Thanks.
