Fabia vRS diesel priming noise

Featured Replies

Had Fabia vRS couple months now and noticed that when diesel tank level goes below 3/4 full you get a quite noticeable noise like diesel churning through fuel pipes for a second or two when ignition is first turned on.

Doesn't happen with full tank, and once the first priming is made you then just get a very faint whirr/electric pump type noise if you listen hard with drivers door open - that seems to be more like what you'd expect.

It doesn't do it again until car has been standing for a minute or two, even if engine isn't then started.

Any one else get this or should there be some kind of non-return valve. Maybe its normal that all the PD engine fuel systems do this???

New to VAG engines - my old PSA XUD just clattered away on its ancient CAV mechanical pump!

:)

Mine does it too, though I have a lowly PD100

They all do it. It's a feature of the system. Also, when you turn the ignition off, you can hear excess fuel being returned to the tank.

Thanks guys, we all live and learn from those that go before!

Ahhh, thats what the noise is when you turn off! always wondered about that........

I like it - it's kinda re-assuring that fuel gets put where it belongs, and only where it belongs :D Hell it may even be a safety feature that's required by some regulatory body these days, who knows :D
