Headlight bulbs! Bulb Talk, I feel stupid asking this!

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, any help would be appreciated!

So here goes, i have bought some upgrade H7 bulbs for my 2010 Fabia VRS fitted with DRLs if that makes a difference?.

After a right struggle (HUGE HANDS!) i have managed to replace the main beam bulbs and indicator bulbs.

heres where it gets tricky,

1. I have tried my hardest to remove the sidelight (501) bulbs but cant actually get them out of the headlight! whats the deal with this? i have been twisting and twisting for almost an hour and still cant get them out! My fingers are killing! The previous owner has fitted uprated phillips 501 bulbs but somehow im guessing managed to fit both backwards! so they don't come on when you turn your sidelights on.

2. I have managed to get the dipped beam (inside the projectors) bulb out of the headlight, but for the life of me i can not get this out of the metal bulb holder, on both headlights!!

I have even resorted to pulling from the bulb itself and still can't get it out, is it secured in there somehow??

a simple task has taken up 1.5 hours of my time and i seriously dont have a clue why its all so stubborn, if i cant get them out after your advice, im going to have to take it to a shop, which i dont want to do, as changing bulbs is supposed to be bloody simple haha!

Anyway, thanks for reading.

Matthew

not sure about the dipped beam but as for the 501 sidelight bulb, I think they are a push fit. Grab the black part (not by the wires) and pull it out.

Isn't the vrs with drls the one where the side lights don't actually work?

Are you serious haha?! i did wonder how the hell somebody managed to fit both bulbs backwards!

i looked at the DRL sticky but couldnt see too well!

if theyre push fit that may explain why im unable to do the usual twist anti clockwise method haha! :( I've never came accross this before, what an IDIOT haha! i'll try again tonight...

As far as I know the 501 are dummy bulbs as the DRL'S dim and become sidelights. The 'sidelights' in the main light housing never illuminate.

To remove the bulb from the holder, which is always a PITA you can use a flat bladed screwdriver and put it in between the clip and bulb then twist the screwdriver to release the bulb, you may have to do this in a couple of places to free it completely.
