Opened garage door on to bumper! Help!

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Annoyingly parked a little to close to the garage today, upon opening it, the corner of the garage door has made a nice gouge in my bumper.

Car is a race blue Octavia vrs.

The dent is about 5mm across and vertical as far as you can see on the pictures.

Tried hot water in a hope it would pop out, no luck.

Any way to get the dent out?

What is the best way to go about repairing this without paying for it professionally?

I have access to most detailing products and a DA polisher.

Cheers,

Stu.

Given time it will most likely sort itself out, however you have paint missing from either end of the impression.

Cheers Manyo, I am aware the paint will need touching up but how will the dent reverse over time? Cheers.

Lol. I wasnt aware car bumpers were self healing. I must let my neighbour know before he buys a new bumper for his vw caddy that got nudged.

Well cars are like people aren't they? People heal them selves.

However this wound is terminal and I'm afraid it's time for a new car now.

The panel where the damage is the small section above the main bumper area below the light - can this section be removed from the bumper by removing the light?

This would make repair a lot easier as I could probably push the dent out.

Suppose the quickest option Stu is to whip the light off and try push it out before it leaves a crease, or would a suction pad people use to remove dents not do the trick? (cant think of the name)

As described:

The small panel is removable and it wont cost much to get repaired at your local paint sprayers

Got the panel off. Needed to remove the rear light.

Had some pretty intense heat from a hairdryer on the reverse and tried pressing it out to no avail :(

Panel part number 1Z5 813 345, going to give TPS a ring tomorrow, see how much a new panel would be.

New panel is £7.50 directly from dealers, ordered and getting it sprayed. No point messing about with a smart repair.

Cant complain with that really mate, atleast it wasn't an expensive accident :giggle:  Youll be careful next time.

You got that right.

Spraying will still be £25, unless anybody knows a cheaper alternative that doesn't involve a rattle can and a full day of my time.

You got away lightly there

Glad its not a lot
