Cambelt changed

Featured Replies

A mechanic friend of mine worked at the Honda Dealers in Wigan until they made redundancies just before Christmas, he now works at his father in laws garage.

He used to do work for me on my Honda Integra Type-R, i.e he got the parts from Honda me and fitted them.

I've now sold the Honda and bought an Octy vRS 2010, which needs the cam belt change it's had it's last service 79,996 6-9-2013. Next service due at 99,996 Sept 2015. So I can't wait till next service to get it done.

What I'm saying is if I bought the genuine VAG cam belt kit and got him to fit it would that be acceptable or would the next buyer be worried about, if I kept the receipt for the parts I'd bought?

I always prefer receipts to a stamp in the book. However if the car has a full main dealer service history I would be tempted to keep that going.........may help to get a good will contribution in the event of a failure, will help when you come to sell the car

Regards all

You could get the cam-belt changed anytime?

Record mileage on receipt/s perhaps as proof of change alongside receipt when work was carried-out?

This way it would spread the cost of a full service and the cam-belt change ? ( I did )

Ok thanks for the advice. Looks like either Main Dealer or VAG specialist for me then.

The car is well out of warranty, in the next couple of years the 'value' of a fully stamped service book will rapidly decrease too.

Keep the receipts (ask the motor factors to put the reg number on the printed invoice) and keep them together with the hand book.

Don't pay main dealer prices just for a stamp.

Shop around too, the max price you should pay is £349 (Skoda National Pricing Policy), plus another £100 if you want the water pump doing whilst the belt is off.
