New tyres for 18 inch vrs wheels

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I've been looking through several posts about tyres and getting a little distracted with how many there are.

I'm calling to the regulars in the know to ask which tyres I should be looking at getting all round, budget ideally less than £100 a corner, currently have falken 452. They seem to bulge a bit much under the front even when pumped up higher than book says, break loose too easy and rears are noisy at speed. So no more falkens then. I've looked at vredistien vortis, Goodyear efficient grip and as2 and Michelin ps3. Also seen uniroyal rain sport 3s getting a mention on here.

Suggestions please, I'm calling my local garage for prices tomorrow and I have to hand prices off blackcircles plus fitting at the same garage but want to feel underhand about it.

Vreds are very good but wear a little fast. My next tyre (after I wear out these sketchy Avon ZZ3's) are hopefully the Goodyear Asymmetric 2's. Good report from many a mk5 and mk6 Golf GTI owner.

Try www.jungletyres.co.uk there cheap for vredestein and you can get them fitted at your local garage if it's listed.

I got goodyear efficient grips from blackcircles.com £110 a corner fully fitted...

Are efficient grips newer and better than the as2.

Had a look at jungletyres 103 fitted for the vorti is good indeed.

Which of these tyres stands up to the poor rear camber on the octy better, I'm thinking ones with a solid inner band of rubber not like my falkens as they have grooves on the edge

The AS2 is the top Goodyear tyre. Have them and rate them very highly.

I also have the as2, paid about £100 a corner very recently @ F1 autocentres.  grip and feel are excellent, though im not that impressed with the road noise, given the good decibel rating i was expecting quieter.  It has had a recent 4 wheel alignment but will have another soon ish after some suspension work.

Anyway back on topic...  When I was looking the as2, uniroyal rs3 and michelin ps3 tyres seemed to be getting a lot of love on the forums, with positive mentions for the vredi's too.  there is an evo tyre test for the 225/40 18 on the web somewhere too, but too old to include the uniroyals.

So sounds like as2 is the one to go for good grip. Do you think the efficient grip would be quieter?

PS3's on old car, phenomenal grip and braking when wet. Given we don't live in Dubai...

Probably too late for you now, but mentioned how to get Michelin PS3 for under £100 a corner here; http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/312274-ends-today-if-youve-still-to-buy-your-summers-look-in/, my claim's now been approved by Michelin, so £70 petrol card on it's way, used the fitting center as the dealership, Fast Fit, instead of MyTyres, as it was listed as a qualifying dealership, also, promotional code SP1. This deal for 18" rubber, IMHO, can't be beat at the moment.
