Sump Plug Issue

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Servicing my 1.6 Skoda Fabia 2011 105BHP TDI on Thursday with a buddy of mine,

i was wondering if i will need to replace the sump plug washer when i remove it to drail the oil or if i'll be ok to us the last one?

also, does anyone know how to reset the service indication on the dash board?

i've heard its a combination of stereo and ignition controls but im not to sure?

any feedback welcome!

Thanks guys,

Nathan.

Replacing the sump plug every time the oil is changed is not necessary IMO...that's probably going to provoke someone with the opposite opinion!

You should replace the washer but it is captive on the plug. They only cost about £1 so its not exactly expensive.

£2, why would you not fit a new one.

Finding you have a Drip after doing an Oil & Filter change is a PITA IMO.

And then you need to go replace the Plug or Washer anyway.

(lets not even think about those that go tighten it a bit more then strip the threads)

There are those that do not even remove the Sump Plug, just vacuum out the Oil but charge for the new Plug,

&

Then Skoda Dealerships that can have the Invoice as,

Sump Pug (£1.60) or £1.70 plus VAT = £2.04

When VW Dealerships for the same car have on the Invoice,

'Screw' £1.89

& 'Washer' 0.75 plus VAT = £3.16

But the VW Dealer might charge £1 or so less than the Skoda Dealer for the Bottle of Washer Fluid

that they never used

or put in the car for you, even though it is on the Invoice with the parts/materials used.

Replacing the sump plug every time the oil is changed is not necessary IMO...that's probably going to provoke someone with the opposite opinion!

I agree + 1
