Petrol Gauge not Indicating Fuel Level

Featured Replies

Hi

My Octy VRS petrol gauge does not move first thing in the morning. It stays in the completely empty position until you have driven the car for a while. Stopped, turned the engine off, turned the engine on and hey presto the petrol gauge works.

Anyone any ideas as to why it does not register on startup. The garage have no idea and have booked it in next week. I am hoping someone here can tell me what the problem is long before the garage start to charge me a fortune.

Thanks for your help

Might be a faulty sender unit sticking when cold or maybe a wiring connector come loose.

FROM COLD (When you have the problem)

Check the wiring plug to the sender unit is firmly on...(lift the rear seat cushion and you'll see a 8" diameter black metal circular plate. Undo the three screws holding it on and lift the plate off...you should now see the fuel pipework and wiring into the sender unit, check the connector block is properly on and the contacts are clean) If the connetion seems okay and its still not regestering any fuel gently tap the top of the sender unit to see if the sender arm is sticking, it might 'jerk' free with a tap.

hope this helps....

Hi Rickyb303

Yes it did fix the problem. Having taken everything apart and put it back together again the fault has not returned. Whether this was just luck I don't know. Not sure if its the same instructions for a furby but worth a try.
