Hi everyone

 

My Fabia has been making an intermittent rattling noise for the past couple of months. It's present idle and at low speeds... it disappears when the revs get high. Does anyone have any ideas of what it could be? I've attached a recording!

Sounds like a tappet type of noise to me. Failing hydraulic lifter perhaps?

Yeah, I checked it. I'm worried it's just not worth fixing, given the age of the car (also, it's got 93,000 miles on it).

I'd take the rocker cover off and see if there's excessive slack on any of the tappets.
