New Tread Wear Markers?

Featured Replies

I was peering at the tread pattern on my new Barum Bravuris 3 HN tyres. I note that there appears to be little square bits of tread with an X on them at around half depth -in addition to the 2mm markers at the base of the grooves. Is this a common design to give an earlier indication of tread wear?

And it looks like yellow coloured raindrop symbols may appear when the tread wears.

Been peering at other tyres in my works car park- it seems to be the  Continental practice to include the 4mm rain wear markers. Barum is a sub brand of Continental.

Lets hope it remains a simple warning. I now think the yellow marking is something else.

Just time it so you hit the marker in spring :)

My Uniroyal RainSports have it too (Again Conti brand), but it won't mean an MOT failure, just advice.

I switch out to winters anyway so I'll be running them past the rain drop.

Have them on the ContiPremiumContact 5 factory fitted to our Octy.

From my time living in Germany back in the 90's seem to remember it was common practice over there to change tyres round the 3mm mark.
