Stupid question but I have to ask

Featured Replies

Short of money at the mo but I have a few items at my disposal and was thinking of tinkering.

Basically it's my understanding that the Smic can't cool the air the same a a large volume fmic correct?

So could I get the intake temperatures down using a fan and and a bumper vent? Was thinking about a large electrical cooling fan mounted in the inside of the bumper!

Would this work????

View and opinions welcome

is there room for a 'large electrical fan' in there?

What about a pikey arch mod?

It'd do something, various Jap motors have them, my old Shogun had one on its top mount IC. You'd be well advised to get the Audi arch vent fitted to get the heat out of the back end of the IC as it has nowhere to go apart from up and into the bay.

It'd be a fun side project, but it'll never be as affective as a decent FMIC

Helping directional flow to the cooler would help more than installing a fan.  The pikey arch vent mod helps with this as it increase flow by providing a nice exit route for the air.

Clean the intercooler inside and out too.

Its interesting issue now this time of year. The weather is getting a bit warmer and I've noticed my car doesn't feel quite as lively. I've been considering doing the Audi TT arch mod for a fair while but I'm not too sure how much difference it makes.

Definitely give the air somewhere to go before trying to wedge more air in through the front.

Hmmmmm I'm gonna have to try this

Is the arch mod as simple as removing some plastics and replacing with a grille?

Just get the drill out

Well I say large it's the size of a saucer! And yeah I'll probably do the arch mod

I went and had a look round the local scrappy and picked up an arch vent off a fiat.

What model fiat was it buddy? And did you just do it the same way as the Audi tt one?

I'll get round the scrap yard and get this done!!

Being a true pikey I found some cladding/sofit vents in the garage sprayed them satin black and used a 60mm hole saw I've got 4 vents in there now

This might not be too scientific but has anyone took air temp readings around the ic area then carried out the arch mod and compared readings?

I think if you were to hook up vagcom before and after it would give you intake temp differences.

Not sure if anyone has done it though? I've got a friend locally with it so I might try blanking off the vents and do a before and after

Rig 2 washer jets facing the intercooler off the washer bottle pump.

Intercooler spraying works a treat

I think it was off a Brava or Bravo. I never got round to fitting it before I sold the car, but I was going to do the same as the TT mod.

Yeah fiat bravo. I'll see if I can find one or similar in the scrappies.

Pikey mod ok on standard motor, still get heat soak on mapped cars,

Just get the drill out

You mean like my efforts?

Well, dragged myself to the scrap yard this morning. Got a arch

Liner off a fiat cinquecento. Should get some air moving.
