Some of the newer ones have DAB.

Unless you want DAB, get a 2010 unit with 4xxx firmware in it. Saves a few pennies over a 2014 version.

Just make sure its a LED screen (will have a letter 'A' after the part number.

It'll run the latest maps and there's very little difference in response time.

I don't have MFSW or Maxidot and have an older car. It's not important for a head unit swap.

The link looks to be a 'B' model, although I'd ask them for a photograph of the large white label in the casing just to be sure that it is not a 'B' version through software/firmware updates (mine shows as a 'B' unit in the hidden menu but is physically an 'A' unit by manufacturer.

Otherwise, looks like a reasonably good price.

I have to say it, there's no guarantee that it hasn't been stolen somewhere in Europe, moved overland through Lithuania who apparantly have no morals and then bulk distributed to England as a money laundering exercise for some Russian political activists. You have been warned...

PS: the main advantage of a newer one is a larger (40Gb) hard drive, but it is not too hard to swap it for an even larger SSD if you wish. I forgot that in an earlier post.

My flippant comment about the Lithuanians & Russians was to appease the people on here who think that all Columbus units on eBay are stolen.

I bought from NaviandBMWparts on eBay and have been happy with mine. But theirs are £486 + £28 P&P (he will take offers about £30 less though) and newer.

As above, I suspect that one from Sat_Nav_Deals is a software upgrade to make it look like a 'B' unit and also a modified firmware (as it expressly states it won't cause battery drain in pre-2007 cars).

Personally, I'd avoid that one.

I'd ask for a photo of if the white label showing the serial number, part number, HW & SW version from factory (although it's not impossible to manufacture these yourself). At least that way you'll see the exact factory details and know that you have received what you ordered.

As I said, I'm happy with mine from NaviandBMWparts (your first link in previous post).

Your choice at the end if the day though.
