1.8 TSI DSG Issues to know about....

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've been looking at getting a combi and up till now have been looking at the 170 diesel but i have come across a seemingly nice find in a 1.8TSI DSG petrol variant and will be taking a look around it in the next few days. It's a 2010 10-plate (May 2010) elegance model with park assist and electric boot as options as far as i know up to now and it's done 28k miles.

Are there any niggles or issues i should be looking for with this particular spec / combination in a car of this age?

I know the DSG needs an oil & filter change at 40k is it??? or is there a time limit too??? say 40k or four years etc...

Is it easy enough to check things like the park assist system / front & rear parking sensors are working ok?

How do you check if the sat-nav is up-to-date?

Anyone know if the iPhone 5 works ok via the bluetooth integration in the car?

Also as it is just approaching four years old is it due anything major, service wise, that i should be looking to see has been done?

Apologies for all the questions a few searches have already yielded some of the answers i needed......After years on Brisky i know these sort of posts are a right royal pain.

Cheers

Dave.

After years on Brisky most people know I'm a right royal pain.

Agreed

Hi, the 7 speed DSG used for the 1.8TSI is the dry clutch version that doesn't need any oil change at all. On the other hand there has been several issues and problems with this gearbox and the dry clutch being used. Right now there is a campaign for replacing the synthetic oil for a mineral oil instead. From late 2012 a new revised clutch has been used but the question is when or if there has been any gearbox job being performed on the car? Maybe it already has had a clutch job and then it might have the better clutch material already?

... on the other hand, it is not all users that are affected but if you are unlucky it might be expensive ... Still very happy with mine though!

Hey, if Dave does get one you'll be both at the opposite ends of the age spectrum...

Your the youngest owner of a Superb, and he will be... etc etc

Look out for a v6! Never had an issue with DSG though, I test drove a DSG 170 before the v6 and it was really smooth. I'd never go back to a manual though.
