Renewal advise

Featured Replies

My car insurance is up for renewal in July and my occupation has just changed.

Basically my wife has epilepsy and Fibromyalgia and her health has taken a turn for the worse. Whilst I was at work a family member (her father) used to supervise her during the day as she can't be left home alone. Since Christmas his health has taken a turn for the worse and he can no longer help (had to quit driving) so I've had to give up work.

Obviously I need to inform my insurance company that I'm no longer working as I'm now her full time carer. Question is on the websites it asks for occupation so do I put myself down as unemployed or do I put myself down as a househusband?

I looked for carer but it gives 2 options

Carer-Non professional

Carer- professional

If I select non professional it then asks for services? So what do I put?

Will it have an impact on my premium if I'm classed as unemployed?

You are not Unemployed if you are a 'Carer' and in getting 'Carers Allowance' because you provide over 35 hours Care a week.

(if you are not getting this, worth checking out.)

If you are in receipt of JSA, then you probably are classed as Unemployed.

Talk it over with the Broker.

If the call handler does not understand, then ask them to go talk with the Underwriter.

Yeah I do receive carers allowance as she is classed as disabled. Will have to speak to them as like I said I'm unsure what category I'd fall under.

Speak to someone dealing with your car insurance and stop guessing.

You cannot muck about with insurance company's who will squeeze-out of anything if they can, in the event of a claim..

Hi, I'm genuinely sorry to hear about your situation but the best thing to do is to speak to your broker/insurer and get their advice. Explain the situation and anyone worth their salt will make sure you get the best result from the available options.

Definitely agree with this

It would just be insurance company like to not pay out on a claim because they were not satisfied with your profession classification.
