Warranty Direct

Featured Replies

I was just wondering about warranty on my car so looked at Warranty Direct and they quoted me £320 to get me covered, this seems a lot to me has anyone had any dealings with this lot.

Maybe try,

What age of car?

EDIT,

A 'Skoda Approved Extended Warranty', is with Car Care Plan,

& the same cover can be bought online possibly for less from 'Car Care Plan'

I had gold cover with them so I could take ti a main dealer . Engine warning light came on on my Octy rang them oh your covered take to your dealer( and told they would pay for diagnostics) so took in and later had ti pay 105 quid for diagnostic and reset of tumble flap. I rang them I said you said no charge . They said if tumble flap motor had gone ( 540 quid ) they would pay for that and reset. As it was software no ! I said so because both myself and dealer are honest I have to pay. I cancelled there and then and they were not bothered and they took 3 days to tell dealer they would not pay. Since learned it can be done with vagcom . Stay clear and get a skoda warranty

Sounds like a typical insurance small print get out clause that.

No wonder these extended warranties and insurance companies in general have got such a bad and most hated  reputation.  :@

Its a risk you take. Do I not extend the warranty and hope nothing goes wrong, or do I get an extended warranty and hope that whatever breaks will be covered. At £300 plus I'd be tempted not to bother and hope that any major repair bills are offset by the saving of not purchasing, unless of course you can get a manufacturers backed warranty.

Picked up a Mazda yesterday and they could offer to extend the warranty if we wanted, but it was not backed by Mazda and was only the same as going to any of the others that you see advertised on TV and in car magazines.

Have never bought one myself having normally moved on before the manufacturers warranty expired but did consider it for the Fabia VRS simply because of the engine (had already had one replaced) but changed to a new Octy oil burner instead.

I guess the thing to do is to check on car forums for the car you have and see if there are any typical failures which could leave you seriously out of pocket if they failed and check whether any potential warranty you may buy would cover it. If it does then maybe not such a bad idea for peace of mind, but if it doesn't then it would be a waste of time.

I never touch warranties point blank. There are multiple small print get-out clauses that they will evoke every time. Sometimes I win and sometimes I don't but in the long run I play by the Sale of Goods act and other trading standard laws. Surprising how many firms do not know exactly what the customers statutory rights actually are. For example if you buy a TV or washing machine, how long do you expect it to last. The mfr put 12months guarantee how ever the shop that sells you the goods is liable for the fault within a reasonable timeframe of it's expected use. eg 5 to7 years If the items breaks or fails due to a fault (ie you have not damaged it) then they must offer to repair or replace the item.

I have done this with many items over the last 10 years and that is why you don't need extended warranties.

Also the extended warranty business is a hard sell at the retail level and you are now finding even the simplest and cheapest of items now being offered with extended warranties. ie a £5 Kettle from Argos is available with a 3 year warranty for £2 making the warranty 40% cost of the Kettle.

Oh, I think you'll find that they do - certainly the likes of the big nationals know exactly, almost to the second, what their responsibilities are.

They just assume, correctly, that 99.999% of the British public don't, and even if they do, won't want to make a fuss.

...which all leads me on quite nicely to my new and slightly related  thread up there somewhere ^^^^^

GAP insurance

Currently several Briskoda members have problems with Fabia mk2 vRS out of Original Warranty.

Skoda have had to 'Assume the Position' with the members with Extended Warranties,

because VW Group have known about the engine issues since 2009 and done nothing

to publicly accept they are at fault,  they just Revised the Engines in 2012..

They have played Customers about, Oil Consumption Tests,

Breather Mods, ECU Updates and then replaced dozens of Engines in the vRS's, Polo's, Ibiza's and A1's.

Anyway, Skoda know they are in the wrong, and out of Original Warranty you fight them yourself.

They are acting quick enough now that 'Extended Warranty Companies are involved.

They are Footing the Bills, Skoda that is.

1000 of the Skodas now out of Warranty & 800 still in.

It is costing Skoda around £4,000 a time,

Some cars have had 2 new engines.

Nothing in writing from Skoda, VW, SEAT or Audi accepting they knew there were Manufacturing or Design Faults.

VORSPRUNG DURCH TECHNIK.

Some cars just really need Extended Warranties, or you need a good Solicitor.

If you buy an Extended Warranty you had best read all 'Exclusions' & T&C's.

Mileage and Service Requirements etc.

I thought about doing this with my old car, I think they wanted £20 a month for it. At the time my dad persuaded me not to, on the reasoning that I should open another account, and put the £20 a month into that. If my car does need fixing, hopefully I've got some money aside to sort it. If it doesn't, I haven't given warranty direct a load of money for nothing, and I've got some money set aside to use for what I want.

As it happened an airbag went off for no reason costing me £1000+ a year or so later, but I doubt they would have covered that anyway!

Generally not worth purchasing unless a genuine extended warranty through Skoda!

The 'Genuine Extended Warranty' bought through Skoda with the mark up comes through the Post,

and with it your Warranty Certificate from

'Car Care Plan'.  the Underwriters and Warranty provider.

I did get a quote from them using their mileage indicator and got a figure, which was reduced after I mentioned my mileage was almost at the bottom limit. I didn't take it up and since then ,like a lot of folks getting a quote, have been spammed via email and phone on a regular basis. I had a look on "whocallsme" to find this is regular practice for Warranty direct.

But from past experience it's not what's covered, but what's not that's important. I had one where a head gasket leaking water was covered, but not leaking oil. And when a heater  matrix was found faulty , they paid for that, but not anti freeze.

I have found this to be the case as well. They only cover the faulty item, full stop. Any sundry items andfluids that need to be changed because of contamination are not covered.  You can also exclude fixings such as stretch bolts for a cylinder head change even though they have to changed.

I wonder what Warrantywise are like, Quentin Wilson stands by their warranty apparently.

One has to ask does Davina McCall really do home hair colouring by herself, does Carol Vorderman really take all those medical supplement like Sambucol, Bioglan and shops at IsMe and did Quentin Wilson use Warrentywise before he was asked to do the advert?

Personally I would not believe a word any celebrity who is being paid to front the product as it just the manufacturer with a big advertising budget. Look at those celbs who advertised Smoking as being beneficial in 60/70/80's and the Radium advertising that is was also beneficial to you health and it was put into sweets, toothpaste etc and giving people Bone Cancer.

I bought a warranty from these and my little 1 series got pinched 14 days after purchase

They charged me the whole policy price for 8 days cover

I folded knowing I could win as a legal eagle I know said they have a rep for destroying credit rating and we were getting a mortgage soon after

if their office was on fire I would purchase marshmallows and chocolate biscuits and pull up a chair
