Octavia vRS estate rear tyre wear

Featured Replies

Hi,

Had my 57 plate Octy vRS MOT'd at the start of March. Passed with advisory of rear tyres at 3mm left. Noticed yesterday a cut to the sidewall on 1 so decided to swap for the spare and ordered 2 new tyres. On removing I was shocked at what I found. The inner portion of the r/h rear had worn through to the canvas/chord and was slick , I removed the rear l/h and it was slick on the same area. Are Octys known to be harsh on tyres on the back ? Tyres were conti sports. Got 1x new tyre fitted today along with spare until new tyres arrived when I will get a full alignment done. I think had I left the tyre any longer it would have gone bang !

There has been a known issue in here about sawtoothing rear tyres on the Octy vRS. My L&K has done the same, just replaced all the tyres and the left rear was worn out on the inner band of tread, though they had done 37,000 miles. The cause on mine was the lower suspension link bushes were worn, just had them renewed and a hunter 4 wheel alignment done so I hope that sorts the problem out.

Even without sawtoothing they'll wear the inner edges.

Bit of a curse on all wide tyred cars these days apparently.

+1. Mine do the same. It's only slightly more wear on the inner side of the rears. Not sufficient to concern me.

Car has also been Hunter-aligned.

Was a revised geometry issued by Skoda to reduce the problem?

Don't suppose anyone has the details if so (in case we get the small person transporter aligned)

search on sawtoothing and you'll find lots of info.

to the oP:  get your car aligned (all four wheels) otherwise the new tyres will go the same way.  you also need to check your tyres more carefully in future but i guess you know that now.. :)

If you go somewhere that has a Hunter alignment rig I believe they get updated with the latest settings. Not sure about other equipment.

Fear not you are not alone, 06 L&K estate is the same, just waiting for the weather and motivation to hoik it up and assess what bits need replacing before I get new tyres and a hunter alignment.

Had my fl VRS serviced last week and both my rear tyre inner edges were down to the core.  Had my tracking re-aligned as follows:

Good link - thanks!  Looking at those figures, I'm not  surprsed you had excessive rear tyre wear.

Does it drive any differently now?

Yes mate it does.  I thought the noise was my rear wheel bearings on the way out too !!  Now, silence is golden......
