Bike rack recommendations for Octy vRS combi mk3

Featured Replies

Can anyone recommend a tailgate bike rack for the Octy vRS combi or does the rear spoiler stop this from being a feasible option? I have a bad back, so don't really want to use the roof rack option. Have considered a towbar option (but didn't select that option when ordering my car) - plus I think that would end up being too expensive for occasional use. Would appreciate recommendations and photos if you've found a bike rack that works well.

No feedback received so far :-( Has anyone with a vRS combi tried to load bikes on the back, or are we all still too excited and just want to drive our vRS's rather than get out and cycle?

I tried a rear rack (on SWMBO's Mazda) but to be honest it was a PITA and had to be dismantled every time we wanted to open the boot.  I didn't fancy doing the same on the Octy so managed to scrounge a set of roof bars from the dealer when I bought the car.  Not ideal for you, from what you say, though.

Any reason you don't just put the bikes in the massive boot?

Dodgy. I know the boot is big (which is great), but its still not big enough to hold 2 adult bikes and 2 toddlers bikes without putting the rear seats down and then there is no room for the kids... although that may be a good thing ;-)

I see, Well, if I was putting a bike rack on my car on a regular basis, it would have to be a tow bar mounted one, which would mean fitting a (hopefully removable) tow bar.

We drive to the French Alps every July, clothing for 2 weeks for 4 adults and my bike all go in the boot. Neighbours watch me fill the car, one of them reckons it's Tardis-like as an endless procession of kit makes its way from house to car and none of it ends up in the cabin area :)
