induction kit filter setup

Featured Replies

Hey all. Im going to purchase a s2k k&n filter from ebay. Then im going to get my mate to knock me up a heat shield that seals to the bonnet to reduce intake temps. My question is what else do I require other than the filter. Will I need any silicon hoses and im guessing theres a breather pipe somewhere so where do I attatch that to? Also will the cone bolt straight onto the maf or should I hose from that then connect to it. Im not after running it down near the bumper because my mate hydrolocked his engine doing that. Cheers

I think the S2K filter has a large neck that is around 85mm dia. The VRS MAF is around 64mm dia. So you would need a silicon reducer to fit to the MAF.

If you still have the SAI pump fitted then yes you will need to fit a small filter on the end of the SAI Hose (as that is current plugged into the std airbox).

Sai pump? Secondary air pump? Think iv heard ppl mentioN this. What does it do and why would you remove it?

Yes secondary air pump.

It was more a point on making you aware that you will need to place a filter on the end of the pipework coming from the SAI when you remove the airbox

Folks remove it for a few reasons:

1. When it starts to play up , it  gives poor initial start up running

2. It get's very noisy whilst running (ok it only last 60 seconds but still can be annoying)

3. It is something else to go wring and cause poor running when it does go wring

4. it cleans up engine bay and removes all those black plastic hoses when removed.

If it is running fine leave it alone and fit filter

Where does the SAI pump air into while its running?

So I stick a filter on the end that attaches to the airbox bit. This one of those small breather filters? Or is it a oil catch can or is that something different lol.

Yep a small breather filter.

Not a catch can.

Ok thanks. Another question. I will want to go stage 2 at a later date. What intake setup do I need for this?

You can go stage 2 on a well fed (air feed) airbox if you wanted to.

Any CAI will be fine for stage 2 though IIRC, obviously some better than others.

Does the airbox require modifications to do this or is it a simple pipe to the airbox from the lower grill area?

not really but no harm improving  the airbox.

I did a guide here; (ignore the drilling holes though as i was just messing with a spare at the time)

You could fit a performance panel filter in air box but not needed.

I run full CAI set up now though.

Ok cheers. The Cai setup aany better performance wise?

questionable tbh,  but seems to work better for my Shark stage 2 set up and better response on throttle

Will this intake pipe from ebay do the job?

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=170727103059&alt=web

Still in 2 minds weather to go for a cone and heatshield or a modified airbox setup. Would a modified airbox defo be able to cope ok with stage 2? It seems a really cheap option :)
