Drivers door locked - sledgehammer?

Featured Replies

I've just spent a few evenings replacing the drivers door lock mechanism with a replacement from Ebay. All was looking good and then the lock barrel broke. Key fob hasn't worked properly for months so have been using the key in the lock. More parts from Ebay. Mended barrel (spring was a right fiddle). Made sure everything was working before tightening the barrel retaining screws - it was, so I secured everything. Shut the door, locked, unlocked, opened, closed, locked, unlocked - won't open.

I'm certain that outer handle and inner handle were connected properly. Operating the inner handle when the door is locked makes the door lock indicator thing pop-up as expected - it just doesn't release the damn door.

I've locked and unlocked, turned on the ignition, driven the car etc just in case its a safety 'feature'.

If I get the inner trim off and get to the mech I still can't get it out because I can't get to the securing bolts with the door closed.

Is it heard of that the lock can fail/jam like this? What do I do ?!!

If I take the rear door off I reckon I can get to the barrel retaining screws - will this give access to the mechanism to persuade it to open? Or should I just hit everything really hard??

your thoughts.....please!

If the lock is deadlocked, you have pull the inside handle twice. The button pops up on the first pull. The door should open on the second pull.

Thanks for reply. Just tried that. It didn't work sadly but I was wrong about the button popping up as expected. Pulling the inner handle makes the button rise up but it doesn't stay up.

Using the key in the lock or the button on the door armrest operates the central locking and the button pops up, but still can't open the door...

The most likely cause is that the wire to the external door handle is over-tensioned. If you pull and hold the external handle, you should be able to release the block on end of the wire from the handle. With a bit of luck you will be able to open the door from the inside

HA! That was it! 2 minute job....you are a lifesaver!!!

Thankyou thankyou!

I'm glad I could help. It's very easy to do. That's why I always test the latch with a metal bar or screwdriver before closing the door :)
