Polo 9n/fabia steering pump...

Featured Replies

Hi everyone apologies if im in the wrong section of the forum. about 4 weeks ago my steering pump went all heavy once i got home from a long journey the power steering light came on and wouldnt come off after. now after i left the car for a week i started revving my car after it was failing to work below and behold it started to work again but once i switched the car off and on again the fault re appeared. again i left the car for a week or so and the other day the steering came back to life for a couple of minutes and went off again. Im running out of ideas here i did top the fluid back up but didnt do anything. Im at a cross roads really im unsure whether the bushes are actually are on there way out or the angle sensor is faulty?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated and apologies if there are similar threads about.

Many Thanks

Bushes have nothing to do with the power steering. It could be the angle sensor, pump, poor battery, dodgy connection etc. You need to get it scanned for fault codes.

All of the above and as you mention 'i did top the fluid back up but didnt do anything' how much fluid was needed? You could have a leak, it sometimes goes into the gaiter which masks the issue. Have a look at the back plate of the angle sensor (the bit you can see), if it's the plastic version then it's the old style and it's likely to fail if not be the cause of your issues, if it's the metal version then it'll be the newer one suggesting it's either been replaced previously so is less likely to be the issue.

Either way scan the codes, get the battery checked (they don't like being left for weeks at a time) and report back.
