New order - chances it's not an MY2006 car?

Featured Replies

I've just ordered a new 2.0 TDI Ambiente in dynamic blue. Apparently it's the only free one in the country at the mo and is at a dealers near Birmingham. What's the likelihood that this is a MY2005 model as opposed to a MY2006?

I'll be calling the dealer anyway but wondered what other folk think

Just hope the dealer is not All Electric Garages, the dealer sticker is impossible to remove!

Depends on when it was built, 06 MY have been coming into dealers for a couple of months now.

Spoke to the dealer (well, a guy on the same site - they're a multi-brand dealership) and he called me back to say that it's got alloys on it. By my reckoning that's an MY 2006 as I believe that the 2005 came with steel rims.

What does the 'MY' signify?

Manufacturer Year

For what it's worth, when I ordered my Octy2 in May it was for an 06 model year -- but I think it had to built (i.e. not delivered from the dealer's or the importer's stock). The order clearly stated model year 06, and I would have thought that a UK dealer order form would have a similar provision.

But, from what you are saying, your car has already been built and is sitting in a dealer's show room somewhere, and you've accepted to take delivery of it. What is written on the order form? If nothing, then do you feel lucky?

Sorry folks if I'm missing something here and it's already been covered already but is there any difference between an 05MY and an 06MY. I'm picking up an Octavia Elegance 1.9TDI on 1st Sept which was built to order. I ordered ity back in May.

in most cases - No

Out of the system now (so can't recall when the model year changes for Skoda (never at the beginning of a new calendar year btw)) but if for example the new model year build started on 1st May the only difference between a car built last thing on 30th April and the same model built first thing May 1st would be the chassis number

Look at your chassis number, the 10th digit along signifies the model year (from 2001 onwawrds), MY6 will obviously be a 6.

Sometimes the are obvious differences. Last year the Fabia facelift began with MY5 so MY4 Fabias are non-facelift

:iagree:

the MY changed at week 27. So all car build after that are MY 06. And i

Rubbish - Any cars manufactured from about the end of June 2005 will be MY06

guess the bonus is.. any faults or problems found in the my05 model will have been adjusted for the build in my06 models.

For instance... when octys first came out the was wind noise problem... all newer models will have any alterations to them built in as standard at factory...i would guess

Also things like ambiants now having alloys etc...

Any faults found now will be updated as required, Skoda will not now wait until MY7 (June 07 ish) to change.

As I said before changing a model year usually has no implications on the way a car is built. It is simply a change of label. You buy a car on 31st August it will have a 05 plate, is that car any different from one bought on 1st Sept except the 55 label?

What the MY can tell you however is how old your car is. There are likely lots of cars stuck at the ports that no-one is buying. If you bought it today it will turn up and be registered 55 but the chassis number may well tell you that car was built this time last year and been sat out at Grimsby gathering dust and rust - and it does happen!

Off topic for this thread.

We had a Corsa van at work which was actually two years older than what the number plate suggested, it came to light IIRC when the exhaust needed changing and the exhaust for the year on the plate didn't fit.

Back on topic.

Skoda I have been lead to believe don't stock pile cars so it should be a fairly recently built car.

My MY02 Octavia 4X4 Estate was first registered by Skoda UK as a demonstrator in March 2002 but was built in August 2001. It showed absolutely no signs of having been stored in the open between those 2 dates.

Up until about this time last year that was not true. A former colleague of mine had a demo registred on a 54 plate, which if recently built would have been MY05, maybe a MY04. It was in fact an early MY03 which meant it was sat at the port for 2 years. However a lot of old stock was cleared last year such that there were no MY04 models at the port at the end of last year.
