boost pressure when n75 unplugged?

Featured Replies

Unplugged my n75 earlier to test actuator as I was told my forge actuator may be leaking or spring isn't strong enough for the 20psi the map runs??

Told these should run 7-8psi standard or waste gate pressure?

So I tried it and it wouldn't boost past 5psi and went like a pasty!!

Is it true what I've been told that the actuator is either leaking or won't hold boost?

I'm just going off what I have recently been told

5psi sounds about right for the baseline unregulated actuator pressure, but it does depend on exactly which turbo variant it has fitted, there are a few minor differences between the turbo types

Couldn't tell you which varient.. original turbine went pop (if it was the original lol) and I sourced a ko3s that came off an ibiza

Dec ko3s, I checked :))

the actuator itself does not 'hold' the 20 psi you mention, it only ever gets a portion of the full boost pressure.. it is entirely possible that the wastegate is leaking internally due the poppet valve not seating fully but that's not likely in your case if you are getting 5psi unplugged..

are you sure you've set the pre-load on the actuator properly?

I never touched the pre load bud.. it came off a running car and the sellers told me it ran great and went well

Should I slacken it off and set it to 3 turns??

ebay sellers ha :bandit:  he's hardly going to tell you it ran like a bag of old spanners..

yeah slacken the nuts off on the pushrod, hold the wastegate closed by hand then wind in the  nut till it touches the lever arm, then turn it 3 complete revolutions with a stubby spanner, i've found in the past it works out better if you mark up one of the flats on the nut with tipex so you can see it more easily.

Wasn't off ebay mate.. it was off one of the vag parts selling sites but you make a valid point.

I have singleton park car show tomorrow so I will prob do this on Tuesday

Thanks
