Trouble Starting

Featured Replies

Hi, currently having some issues with my VRS. After having the rear calipers, disks and pads replaced its now having trouble starting. It turns over so its not the battery as thats been replaced before, but if cranking it long enough the oil light flashes on. I've checked the oil level and it is perfectly fine. The timing belt isnt loose or anything so its not that.

Any ideas? Dont wanna go replacing everything only for it to be something specific.

Thanks in advance

post-110442-13993099676252_thumb.jpg im showing that fault code. Is it likely that? How do I go about cleaning it before replacing?

most prob that is why

It could well be the crank sensor at fault and not the cam sensor.

any way to know which one it is? Is it worth cleaning both sensors if easy enough to do?

When i had my 1.6 octavia it was struggling to start, cutting out at traffics etc.. I had a cheapo vag-com scanner from ebay which said it was the cam sensor. Got one ordered and took it to a local guy who had a garage in his back garden who fitted it (sensor on 1.6 engine is behind the timing belt) he plugged it in too and it said cam sensor. Day after it was still not starting. Turned out it was the same code for cam and crank sensor fault.

The thing is the car should start without a cam sensor but run crap.. If the crank sensor is duff it will be a pain to start, it will start eventually using the info from the cam sensor

Must be crank sensor then as runs perfectly fine just takes a few cranks to start it. Where did you get your parts from?

Ebay and euro car parts.

Cheers. Noticed on ebay I can get both crank and camshaft sensor for about £25. That seem right?

Is that the correct crank sensor?

Are you getting fuel? mine turned out to be the 409 fuel pump relay as it would only work sometimes.

How you mean getting fuel? It does fire up after a couple of cranks.

Yeah that looks like the correct sensor. See if they have a dipstick tube aswell. It will probably break while you do the sensor

Hey,

nice to see someone from around here.

Anyway, my friend had same trouble with his Golf GTi. Just couldn't start in the morning. We went to garage to get fault readings and it was same. Camshaft sensor etc... bla bla bla. We have fitted both sensor and problem was still there. Then after some forum digging job I found someone with same problem.

It turned out it was a coolant sensor (temperature sensor). So we replaced coolant sensor and problem is gone.

I am not saying that this will be same solution for your problem, but it worked for us.

How easy is it to to change the temperature sensor?

It's very easy, once your engine is dead cold. 2minutes job.

What Were his symptoms originally? Im having problems starting the car, and sometimes the outside temperature isn't showing on the instrument dash?

In the morning it took sometime before he could started it up. That's all I know. Have you run proper diagnostic on it? What faults did it come up with?

ive used both torque pro and an ebay diagnostic device. Both come up with P0343 which is a camshaft sensor. Having looked on the forums here it seems the crankshaft sensor is also linked to this error code, hence buying both sensors to change.

R-tech are in Hinckley so not far for you they'd put it right I'm sure bud.

Just give them a bell when it comes to the 1.8t they're one of the best.
