If your lossing PAS and your lights are going dim it sounds battery related to me.

Always did wonder how much juice the electric power steering took out of the battery.

but the power steering light comes on on the dash ...and car starts fine :(

On full load as much as 80 amps!

Steering light will come on if battery voltage gets low as its cant power the pump. Also starter draws less than the PAS so it might well start ok.

Just an idea thats all based on what ive found in the past.

isnt it the sensor that goes or something, its only on 73k 1st thing major thats gone wrong :(

Yeah for sure, id put my money on the sensor over the pump everytime.

I can understand the load being put on by the PAS on holding maximum full lock. It doesn't half moan a good'un. :D

This is often why if I'm turning full lock, I'll try and not hold it hard on max lock, but keep it at a position just a knats turn away from the "stop"
