Detailing courses or tuition

Featured Replies

Ladies and gents

I'm looking into courses/tuition for car detailing and found a few online. Initially it's just for personal interest for my own car (an old Roomster I could practice on) and if I win the lottery I can spend all day doing the job right on the new addition!

On a serious note, I'd like to see it as a hobby but may even consider it as a second career.  Anyone with any suggestions for individuals or companies to seek out to get me started?

All advice and help will be gratefully received.

Regards

Chubbs

Depends on where you live in the country I recently did a 3 day course in the north east of england at a company called The Polishing company based in cramlington my employers paid for me to do it as my day job consists on cleaning limmos. Mike the owner took me right through the basics from washing the car correctly to clay bars to machine polishing and paint work correction and paint work protection it was an in depth course that gave me the skills needed to keep the cars in showroom condition I am sure there are various companys through out the uk that will run similar courses good luck in finding one and enjoy it if you do get on one

If you are prepared to travel down to Kent then Kelly at KDS is one of if not the best ... he also has people travelling hundreds (and in some cases thousands) of miles to attend his courses.

Kelly will indeed take you through all sorts of processes. I would suggest it may be quite expensive (quality always costs) and may be overkill unless you're REALLY serious on Detailing?

I just replied on your other thread btw :)

Yeah I just looked £900 for pro detailer certification but it looks a very in depth and good course which is tempting me.

If you sign up on detailing world then Kelly actually runs group detailing insight training days (or whatever they are called) for a very reasonable cost.

Of course they are not going to go into great detail but will cover all the basics:

Washing

Masking up

Machine polishing

etc

I recommended Gordon Muir at Defined Details on your other posting. He does great courses with small numbers - I would recommend doing one to start (a good initial grounding for minimum outlay) then if you want to get more in depth you could consider one to one tuition or book a tuition detail which will get you one to one training with the benefit of a shiny car at the end of the day for you to drive home in & you also get a top pro to work on your car ;)

Many thanks for the replies, will look into the recommendations.

You might not need to pay of course.

Plenty of highly capable amateur detailers in the area that I fancy could cover most of everything you would get on a basic course and more.

Depending on your level, I would first look for someone who can give up a bit of their time to work on a full car detail with you. (Usually theirs or yours.) I would offer myself butI am currently struggling to get time on my own car.

From there you will know enough to do some self learning and practicing, see what results you are getting and decide if you want to pay to take your work to the next level, potentially with more focus on professional detailing.

Hi Chubbs - apologies for the delayed reply - as i was over in Barcelona for the F1 last week.

One option i looked into was with a company DetailMyRide.... but depends on how local.

You can see details below from their FB page.... let us know how you go

Now that looks like a far more realistic price for a starter course.

Great find steve

...i thought so too - especially if they are local to anyone here.

  • 3 weeks later...
