5000 miles in....

Featured Replies

My Fabia Monte Carlo Tech estate 1.2 TSI has just ticked over 5000 miles today. Really impressed with it, the kit it comes with is spot on, the car handles well, and I've got used to overtaking in it (I drive mostly on busy country roads), so quite happy. Still haven't given it a proper detail, only waxing every so often, so.need to do that.

There is the odd niggle that I've found though. It can be a bit difficult to get into first and reverse gears sometimes, have to let the clutch up then go back down before trying again, bit weird. Would also prefer if it pulled to higher in the rev range, seems to run out of puff at 4000rpm, and there can be some lag just after changing gear. Got to bear in mind though that I came from a remapped 211bhp Octavia vRS TDi with a stupid amount of torque so I can definitely tell the difference but I've got used to it now, and do quite like it!

Glad you are enjoying it! Cracking motor the 1.2tsi. Doesn't look like you kept the Octy long, how come you sold her?

Was concerned about imminent expensive bills so jumped ship when I could with the Octy. Glad I did but still miss the power at the same time. After my 4 years of finance is up with my Monte I hope to get back into a properly quick, practical motor (got a family after all!) but happy with my Monte though.

My tech TDI has literally just yesterday passed 4000. It's loosened up a hell of a lot and I love it more and more everyday. Funny you say that about overtaking, on Wednesday I did a 200 mile round trip on both motorway and A roads and found myself overtaking like a champ on those A roads. Even in my old fabia after a year I wasn't this comfortable.

The TDI loves to rev out IMHO. Turbo from 2,000 ish to 3,500 then after that there's still quite a bit of torque left to be given. Nothing like the old high torque in the low end PD engine which ran out of puff really early and just made noise.

Couldn't have settled for a better car for 3 years. Even with my dads vRS on the drive next to it at night, this was the right choice. Aside from the lust for that beautiful twin charger and DSG, the insurance is expensive for me ATM as it is - and I would probably total it by being silly with it. I'll openly admit that.

I also have problems with reverse. Seems to be a lot of owners with this little niggle. Wonder if anyone could shed some light?

I someone's have to let the clutch up and depress again to get reverse too? And mines a 1.2HTP.

How can all the gearboxes be the same? What do they have in common?

Seems a little strange to me

Defo the TDI runs out of puff, but then

a)  It is a TDI

B)  Only 1.6

c)  Only 105bhp

I too occasionally have the gear thing and wonder if it can stop a funny way at swith off and cause the box to move or something weird?  Shouldn't but who knows - some days, in I jump and off I go.  Others, it's like doing the can-can with your clutch leg!
