Alarm testing / Mpg calculation

Featured Replies

Hi, silly question but how do i test the alarm without breaking into my car? I have no idea what it sounds like.

Secondly, how is the mpg worked out on the maxidot display? On my corrola, it was an average since the last time I reset it. On the fabia it seems to change every minute and only show current mpg and not over a longer period unless I am missing something.

Leave the windows open. Set the alarm and wave your hands inside the car. I think that should work?

Also on the maxi dot. It should show the current MPG and average. You will have to change it to average by using the rocker button on the right hand stalk.

There is a Button on the Drivers Door to Switch the Alarm off when the Car is being Transported,

locked with people,pets inside etc.

(page 43 of Owners Manual.)

You could go in the car, and lock the car, and then move and you should hear the alarm.

I locked the car this week with someone in it,

and went in a building,

Being Mutton Geoff i had no idea the alarm was sounding, and when i did hear it,

it still did not click, it was my car.    Its pretty loud, as the passenger confirmed.

...............

You have the 'Instant Average',

then Change with the Rocker to 'Average, 1',  & to 2, if you press the little button under the stalk.

In the Main Maxidot Menu, 'MFD DATA'

choose what you want to show on the Maxidot.

To check my alarm, I just sit in the car and lock it with the remote. Wait for 30 seconds or so, then start waving my arms around. Once the alarm triggers, press the unlock button on the remote to shut it up.

Your neighbours must think your crazy. "Dot, that crazy man has just got in his car again and done that thing." :D

Great info guys. Thank you very much. Lol at waving in the car. Will wait a bit to try it out as it is 7.30am.

or just unlock the car with the key in the physical lock (not the remote) then open the door

you have about 30 seconds to put key in the ignition and turn it on, if not the alarm sounds

saves looking like a wally wavy your arms, or a female with a fly in the car :bandit:  :bandit:

I took the wavey arm approach while testing mine hahs.

Also tested my brothers audi a3 alarm while i was at it.

The a3 alarms are surprisingly quiet, discreet and rubbish IMO. I was surprised
