Built in sat nav on Octavia shows average location but doesnt show movement or directions. In gps settings it says 32 availble but 0 receive. Is there a way of connecting to any?

disconnect fuse/battery wait 10 mins reconnect and it should be OK, had this happen a few times on my old MK1

It's built into the dash.

Yes, that is the traditional position for it but was it put there by the factory or by someone else? ie you or a previous owner? 

it sounds like the GPS receiver has failed. it knows based on your last position it should be able to see 32 satellites but it cannot see any. Rather than try and replace the factory GPS aerial, it will be far easier to buy a hockey puck style GPS aerial from ebay or simillar and mount it somewhere on or just under the main dashboard.
