Help with lowering please?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I've got a 62 plate fabia Monte Carlo and I'm looking to change the wheels. I've priced up 17inch (which I believe are the size of the standard ones) and 18inch also. I would also like to lower it a little so I would like to know how far I could lower it on 17 and 18 wheels without the ride being sacralised too much and without it looking ridiculous. Cheers guys :)

I cant imagine the ride being much good with 18's on tbh. Id stick with the 17's if it was me. Although i think someone else on here has used 18's.

Go through the 'show us your monte' post and have a look at what you like. Theres plenty in there lowered to different amounts :). See what takes your fancy

Thanks I'll do that now :D

My recommendation would be 40mm drop as the most for everyday (non show car use) and stay with 17" wheels, ideally with 215/40/17 tyres.

Dropping on springs only won't overly hurt the ride as these cars are a bit pants in that department from stock.

I am currently lowered on H&R Springs, bought at a good price from Alex @ AKS tuning who has in the past supported the Mk2 guys with good group buys.

But I have only yesterday ordered some uprated dampers to try to reduce some of the bouncey ride the car suffers now.

Thanks a lot for the recommendation! Yeah I have noticed the ride on the fabia is really poor which is why I'm worried about making it any worse by adding bigger wheels or lower springs, although I am keen because it would look nice. Defo think 17 is the way forward though

Adding a Eibach or H&R lowered spring kit should only improve the ride and handling.

Personally I found the ride was better after fitting the Eibach springs but the handing was improve noticeably.
