Been offered a astra sri 1.9 cdti 150 for a good price, anyone got any views on them? Not driven it yet as I've been busy working but seen them on auto trader and they look quite nice with the 18s on. Not a big vauxhall fan I've always had fords so after some views on them. Not going to go mad if I get it, probably just springs and a map at the very most but it needs to be reliable as I'm up and down the motorway every day. Are the gearbox meant to be a weak point on them?

with a remap they are good for 200bhp, not bad tbh.  alternators are a weak point and a pain to change.  its the same engine they put in the alfa romeo 1.9jtd

I thought it was the Fiat engine. Think I've done a few alternators on these before if it's the one with the vac pump built into it. Not too fussed for big bhp just don't want to end up regretting selling the fab for one and it being a dog

its a lancia engine but they put it in loads of stuff.  tbh there not as good on fuel as the fabia.  imo id keep the vrs

Swirl flaps...had the engine in my vectra. An alternator, 2 sets of swirl flaps in a year from memory.

In all honesty it's ****ing me off at the min, the windows don't work and I begrudge paying £160 for a new motor when I'm off to Florida next month, it's got a boost leak yet again and to top it off I put my foot down to overtake yesterday and my new sachs clutch slipped slightly even though I've done over 3000 miles on it. Was going to put it on lower torque map strip the leathers and mods off it and get rid as I'm starting to fall out of love with it very quickly :(

Does that mean I get to play with a new ecu?

what year is it, mate had one in his 08 vectra and had no probs, apparently from that year on the swirl flaps etc didnt cause probs.

Sure it's a 56 and done about 90k

My mum has the same engine in a SRI zafira. The dpf is a constant PITA and its had 2 egr valves and a leaking rad. Only had it 14months. 08 plate

I'd forgotten about the egr valve. I had 2 of those too! Mine was a 2006.
