Fuel Consumption

Featured Replies

Hi. I drive a Skoda Superb Automatic, Petrol 1.8.

It seems that for every 25L of Fuel i get around 140 Km, under driving in town. The dashboard indicate fuel consumption around 17L/100km.....

I had a 3.2 engine before with about the same consumtion so i know that 17L/ is not normal... Any ideeas on how to reduce this?

I need to mention that i do not speed.

.. Any ideeas on how to reduce this?

If you don't speed, staying in 1st gear will probably reduce your fuel consumption further  :giggle:

Looks like 16 odd mpg in real money, which is appalling, even with it being a big car for a 1.8 petrol to drag around.  I'd have hoped for late 20's mpg in real world driving.

Have you tried brimming it and doing a manual calculation to get an actual handle on it - if that's not what you've already done to arrive at your 25/140km comment.

Have you had the car long?

Service history - is it choking itself to death with a blocked air filter?

Does it roll okay - brakes binding?

Tyres alright, pressures okay?

Gearbox changing okay?

No obvious fuel leaks?

Petrol smells?

I'd stick my neck out and say something's wrong.  Could be any of a multitude of factors, so if it were me I'd start by having it scanned on diagnostics to see if something obvious gets flagged up.  Might take the guesswork out of it.
