Hi

Featured Replies

I've been seeing alot of useful links to this forum while researching my new car, so thought i'd sign up.

I go by Kez, i'm 23, im good enough with spanners and this car represents my first years out of the darkness of new driver premiums and a non fault claim conspiring against me. I'm also on Pistonheads with the same username.

I bought a mk1 1.8t L&K I won on ebay last week, a one owner, FSSH car. It is exactly what I was looking for. An insurance friendly step up into a nice sized car with a decent engine in it. The leather garnish is the icing on the cake.

I didnt want a golf, they're too shouty for the performance, Passats are slower on paper, and the Audis I was looking at were very shabby for my budget. I knew the 1.8t was insurable in any 150bhp form, so started looking at local Octavia's.

I test drove one and despite the engine light being on I knew the Octavia was a good base for me. I turned that one down and resigned myself to a long wait for a nice one to turn up. Just as i'd renewed the insurance on my Disastra this one came up on Ebay, I test drove it and made a bigger bid than I really should've but the bidding didnt rise too much and I got away with the gamble. I'm getting a nice refund on my insurance having changed from a 115bhp Astra to a 150bhp Octavia, I dont understand the logic but i'm not complaining.

So far all I've found wrong is the Indicator relay (found a solution on here) and the central locking occasionally playing up with either rear door, again i've found some info on here about it.

Hopefully now i'm signed up i'll be able to pick some brains over whats what with the Octy.
