It's going back to be fixed (again!)

Featured Replies

It's been a few months since last mentioned my car went in to be fixed but it's happened again. The fuel pump this time, it's getting replaced as it has gone rather noisy. The tech and I compared it with a new 150 diesel and it is a lot louder (basically sounds like it is priming all the time).

But that isn't all. I got the flywheel and clutch etc replaced about 5 months ago when the car was only a few months old due to a funny noise when the clutch was released in neutral. The tech noticed the noise is back. so it's going to be investigated as well.

One thing we did notice that my car did and the new one didn't is:

  •  When you press the clutch in, the engine revs stay the same (about 750 ish). Yet when you release the clutch (while leaving it stationary in neutral), the engine momentarily revs to 1050 then back again for about a second as if it is overcompensating for the clutch pedal being released.

Could you guys try the same thing and see if yours does this as well please? I can then feed that back to the dealers here in Aberdeen and give them more info / background.

I must say from that point though, the dealers in Aberdeen have been excellent.

What an experience! Glad you get good service from your dealer. My revs stay constant. :-/

RE rev's - the vRS TDI manual I test drove did this, and my Mrs Mini One D also does it (different marque I know, but still). Very handy when crawling in traffic as you don't have to touch the accelerator pedal. I'm pretty sure it's by design.

However...

It normally only does it when first gear is selected as you reach the bite point. So the fact yours is doing it all the time points to maybe a sensor is giving wrong data which may be related to the odd noise if the car thinks the clutch/gear lever is not where it actually is (though I have no idea what it might be doing!).

Hope that helps!

Mine does the revs when clutch is released. How noisy does the fuel pump need to be before its changed..mines quite loud when you stand at the rear, like a loud hissing noise.

+1 here on the increased revs when releasing clutch in 1st gear. Useful feature imo.

Thanks folks, good responses so far! That's almost a 50/50 it does and doesn't surge when releasing the clutch (which makes it a bit strange!!!)

Keith, mines gets louder when I am driving, basically it is the samee sound you get when you first turn the key and the in tank pump starts priming. I can hear the hissing noise when the car is moving all the time, I have kept ane ar out for it over the last few months and my economy has stayed the same, so I don't think it is affecting anything but I have a long trip down South coming up so don't want any more problems.

You wanted the clutch/ revs checked when releasing the clutch whilst in neutral?

Well mine depends on how quick i release the clutch. Release quickly, and it hardly rises at all. Release slowly, as you would if in 1st gear, and waiting for the bite, and the revs rise to about 900.

In gear, and it rises to 900 as well.

I think most on here who have complained about the hissing fuel pump have taken it back in to get it replaced.

If you have a loud hissing noise, something certainly isnt right.

Its a known issue, my dealer said 'they are all like that' at first, and then I said check with SUK and they came back and replaced the pump :)

What is it with dealers and "They are all like that".

Have they never actually driven an Octavia before? Because if they had, they'd know they are talking crap.

Thanks Guys...  I might just do a quick video to see if you think its not normal...

If its hissing, it isnt normal, as my car doesnt do any snake impression!

This is the video...bit shaky..sorry..  but the camera was right in the exhaust flow and the hissing is still quite loud.

That clarifies one thing Keith, it isn't the same hiss! The noise is inside the car on my one (and I think others). It's the low pressure in tank fuel pump that's doing it. They had a laugh when I told them how long it took me to change one in my old car as it only takes them a few hours...

Sorry, don't know what yours is, but I will go out tomorrow and see if mines is making any noises from there.

Thanks... wasnt sure about the noise..hence the video. Would be good to know if I should be concerned about it.

Cant see any difference between your sound and the one in the other hissing noise thread. Working to get mine fixed, have the same hissing noise in front of my right rear wheel. If your sound not coming from the exhaust then.

Edited by ahaavi

The hissing drowned out the exhaust. Think I'll have to do a bit more noseying around the back of the car. Maybe another trip to the dealer next week.
