help with an intermediate radiator leak on mpi 1.4

Featured Replies

hi ,

ive got a 1.4 fabia mpi engine that's dumping coolant from the radiator.

ive had the car up and took bottom plastic cover off and can see coolant stream down from drivers side of radiator, (left hand of rad if your stood infront of car).

I belive this is opposite side from hoses and switch?

now the leak is intermediate and mostly leaks when I turn engine off, it may dump around 0.75 ltr when I park up, however not always, ive seen it dry for 2 days.

I treated it with k-seal and it didn't leak for a couple of days (maybe luck) .

id like to hear people opinions on where the leak may be coming from and also is there any way I can get a closer look at radiator ? like does any of the plastic grill come away from the car?

Its a common fault and just due to age. Just look up the last thread I made on this, eurocarparts do a rad for about £30 ! Fit it and then quit all your woes !

They usually leak where the plastic rad ends are crimped onto the metal radiator. Not much you can do about it.

ok thanks both for replies,

im just of the mind I actually want to see the leak point before I buy a new rad.

however I probably should just save myself the hassle.

ok I bit the bullet,

new rad is on its way,

im going to change it myself at the weekend,

off course any tips would be most welcome.

Check-out any hoses, clips and electrical connections etc connected to the radiator for erosion, or could be a problem removing?

Intermittant you mean

New rad will hopefully fix it
