Rattling sound from the front when the engine is in Idyle

Featured Replies

Hi fellow Yeti owners,

I have been having this rattling sound coming from the front when the car is idling on 'drive'. This is noticed most time at traffic signals. As soon as I hit the accelerator this disturbing sound stops. I took this issue to the Dealer and they could not do anything about it.

Can anyone help please.

Petrol, diesel, how many kms, manual, DSG ?

Drive ok dsg

My Yeti developed a rattle at idle which turned out to be a loose exhaust bracket.  The fact that it had just recently been in for a service might have had something to do with it.  The dealer found and fixed the problem FoC, at any rate.

Could be the brake pipes off the servo and along the bulkhead, mine had a rattle from new which I eventually traced to these and sorted with cable ties and dense foam.

Not the same as the OP but I too have had a "rattle" on tick over on my 1.2 DSG (2011 plate). Long story cut short, had into the Skoda dealers today (Bickerton, Sheffield) fearing the worst, e.g. timing belt tensioner / timing chain etc. Car only done 23000 miles and had the clutch replaced, due to juddering, under warranty in Feb (approx 20000 miles). I was panicking and thinking that my lovely Yeti wasn't going to be as reliable as I hoped :-( As the warranty has now expired, I was advised that there would be a £90 diagnostic fee and then they would give me a price for fixing, I could see my wallet becoming very thin :-( Those lovely peeps at Bickerton have eased my mind and restored my "delighted to have a Yeti". They have fixed the very simple problem. They noticed that it had a "non standard" oil filter (which was fitted about 20000 miles) by a local Fiat dealer! After fitting a new "proper filter", hey presto, no rattling on tick over, go figure! They reckon its the seal on the non standard filter that wasn't seating properly but tbh, I've only had the problem for a few weeks, that I've noticed, it could have been longer but I love the sound system on the Yeti - say no more :-) Moral is, expect the worse but hope for the best :-) Bickerton also changed the gearbox oil, FOC, and said it should have been done under warranty. I have nothing but praise for Bickerton and now I'm going back to the Fiat dealer for some compensation as I have 2 cars under a service plan aggreement. They might know Fiats but it seems Skoda Yeti are not in their area of expertise! Just got to hope that the dodgy filter hasn't shortened the life expentancy of the engine!

Some happy outcomes but here's a not so great one to provide the balance - 4 weeks ago our rattle noise worsened and the warning light came on drove it to our nearest garage (not Skoda) as we are 30 mins away from a dealer and I was worried about the car's drivability. On reaching the garage car died completely. Garage looked and found chain had messed up engine - called Skoda Uk who advised us that nothing could be talked about until a Skoda dealer had diagnosed the problem and that we should take the car there - paid to have it transported 50 miles(!!!) to garage where we had bought it (on SUK's advice!). 4 weeks later with no vehicle we have been told that because the Skoda dealer (who agreed with the independent garage that it was a timing chain issue) where not the first to look at it SUK will do NOTHING in terms of goodwill and as good as said they do not care if we take them to court! Beware and try to get this sorted asap if you are in any doubt about your chain. I will be shifting from Skoda as soon as I can because I am so frustrated by their lack of responsibility to loyal customers. This is an outrageous situation where they have messed up on the quality of a part and yet refuse to do anything about it.

I do not know quite how to move forward from here and now face a minimum £3000 bill!!! But if others can learn from this more the better. I used to tell all I knew to buy Skoda as I was so pleased now I feel a right Chump!

Did you need to cut and paste the same message 5 times?

Plus your rant contains no details of the condition, age or mileage of your Yeti, which is quite important, or what it's service record was.

A bit of a Troll then!!
Not bad for a first entry to the forum.

Now up to 10 and I've reported a couple of them

Sorry, my mistake - just trying to get the alert out so others can avoid the massive bill we are facing. Won't do it again!

Welcome to Briskoda. Forum members like to offer help and advice, not least to those facing expensive repair bills. However without details of your car's age, engine type, mileage and service history - as Llanigraham mentioned above - it is difficult to offer you appropriate advice. If it is a 1.8TSI engine, read the thread below if you haven't done so already.

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/266114-18tsi-and-20tsi-engine-failures/

The car is an 11 plate 1.2 TSI and has done approx. 32,000 miles with full service record, definitely would not expect to be buying a new engine at this point - thank you for the link I will look at it anyway as there may be something helpful to us despite the different engine sizes.

Personally I think it's outrageous that a know manufacturing/design fault is not fixed by them at no cost to either you or the dealer.

32K in the life of an engine is trivial -

VAG/Skoda should be ashamed of their behaviour.

Out here we have commercial TV programmes that would enjoy embarrassing an auto manufacturer with bad publicity.

The ECU failures associated with the DSGs have resulted in deaths and numerous near misses which was only thoroughly addressed after such TV shaming.

Imagine an engine failure in the outside lane on a wet night - it's a basic safety issue.

Out here your problem would be dealt with to your complete satisfaction as a result of the shaming.

VAG are doing everything possible to recover from the disastrous publicity and I'm amazed you are being treated this way by using a technicality.

Czech/German management need to be made aware of the way IT'S customers are being treated.

Type the following into Google to find 1.2TSI-specific threads and posts on Briskoda:

I would have hoped that you would get a goodwill contribution from Skoda UK if your car has a full Skoda dealer service history. However Skoda UK is far less sympathetic where servicing has been done outside of their dealer network.

It's a factory design/manufacturing known fault.......a service by a local independent is just an excuse to brush you off....great for them if it works but what would the factory management think of what is being done to customers in their name.

I'd suggest they don't have a clue what's going on .......no feedback.
