Coolant sensor issue

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Quite new on here and I'm having a problem with my Skoda Octavia estate.

It is a 2004 1.6 8v ambiente estate with a 131k on the clock.

The engine light used to occasionally come and go but it now on permanently. This has dramatically effected the fuel consumption on the car (used to get 47mpg and now getting 25ishmpg).

I used my OBD reader and it came up with 2 codes. The first stated code P1290 (coolant temp sensor). I replaced the coolant temp sensor on the engine which cured the problem for about 3 weeks then it has come back again. Is there another coolant temp sensor on the radiator that I need to replace too?

The other fault was P1030 which is the 02 sensor bank 1 sensor 1.

Now am I right in thinking that the 2nd code is showing because the coolant sensor is providing the wrong/no readings causing the engine to run rich and make the 02 sensor flag up an issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Kind regards
