Anyone done this, I.e. from the green badge to the new black and chrome version, is that a simple swap or will it involve replacing the airbag cover?

The badge cannot be replaced, you can however get a replica new style badge and stick over the top of the original. Try contacting pastyboy on here for advice.

The badge cannot be replaced because it is melted with the cover.

and replace the airbag cover BUT it needs care and patience and of course forget things like a warranty etc as what you will be doing it going against safety.

It can be done and of course it is far cheaper than getting the whole airbag unit but if you feel even slightly intimidated by it then settle for a sticker.
