Gearbox/Engine Noise During Gear Change

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I picked up a Mii Toca in February and it has been really great so far, but one thing has me slightly worried....

When accelerating briskly (eg: slip road onto a DC) in second gear and go to change to third gear >4000RPM there is a metallic/plastic "grating" noise as I dip the clutch.

When driven normally/gently I get no noise and the gearbox/clutch is otherwise smooth and quiet.

I have read about a loose/broken heat shield but don't think it is this because I would think that noise would be there all the time?

Before I visit the dealer I want to harm myself with as much info as possible as I've had a recent bad experience with another brand/dealer....

Thanks.

Is the noise just as the engine stats to decelerate before you engage the next gear? If so I heard something like this when we test drove a Mii and once in our Citigo. Afraid I have no solution, as it's only happened once in our car (and I think seat salesman thought I'd crunched gears - which I hadnt). In our car I try not to pull foot straight off accelerator but ease it off with little more respect than perhaps I was used to in old car in case that was cause as I don't want to hear that again.

Metallic /plastic noise when you dip the clutch. Is this the famous clutch click that these suffer from?

Does it do it all the time?

Yes Eric, I'd say that was fair. As a professional driver having driven a lot of different cars/vans, I've never heard a noise like this during gear changes.

Having done a lot of reading about the gearbox in this car I do fear it is a "characteristic" though.

My fear is as I have to accelerate briskly in second gear virtually every time I join the DC on my commute due to the dolt's that refuse to go above 30mph on the slip road.....something will break and I'll have to foot the bill.
