OK I've just got a USB VAG-COM cable (yes it is a cheap E-Bay one ... I know,I know but I've just found out my wife is expecting twins so some tightening of belts is necessary) and I am currently trying out the shareware version of vag-com (409.1) Initial tests work fine but ...

One of the things I wanted to do was make the steering heavier however when I go to [44 - Steering assist] (from Chassis tab) after some thinking vag-com returns an error VAG-COM: Init Controller No Response from controller!

I also can't get to 35 - Centr. Locks to enable anti-hijacking etc.

I can however go to 56 - Radio, 01 - Engine, 03 - ABS Brakes, 46- Central conv.

if it is of any use I've got a 1.9tdi 130pd with an asz engine

Does anyone have any clues ?

Barney

Probably an issue with using shareware version of the software. I'm sure someone will be along shortly with a few more specific answers.

Doh just looked at the auto scan list for the Octy

01 - engine - response

02 - Auto trans - no response, however it is a manual

03 - ABS - response

08 - Auto HVAC - No response ???

15 - Airbag - not tried yet - too nervous

17 - Instruments - response

19 - CAN Gateway - response

35 - No response - why I've got cental locking

46 - Central Conv - response

56 - Radio - response

OK so revised questions

1) Why no response from 35 - I want to enable the anti hijacking and the selective locking. So how can I do this ?

2) If there is no 44 - Steering Assist on the Octy how is is possible to change the steering weight, I'm sure I've read posts telling the tail for an Octy but the only ones I can find at the moment talk about the Steering Assist module.

Many Thanks

The Octavia uses a belt-driven hydraulic pump for the PAS and the steering weight is non-adjustable. On the other hand the Fabia uses an electro-hydraulic pump enabling the steering weight to be adjusted using diagnostic software.

Probably because Module 35 isn't fitted to your car. Anti-hijack is accessed via Module 46 - central convenience.

Ah that would explain it ... thanks for that. I had expectations and it looks like they are being shattered

I have amended my reply to answer your other question too. :)

Ah so that would explain that too.

Right now you've said that I've gone and read the instructions again and actually understood them this time.

I hate it when that happens and waisting other peoples time, I can only plead lack of sleep brought on by the impending arrivals. Ghod if I'm this bad after only 10 weeks of knowing what am I going to be like by the time they pop out

Many Thanks

Using a VAG-COM cable such as this would invlidate the warranty wouldnt it?

Interrogating a car's ECUs and changing adaptation values which are there to be changed shouldn't have any warranty implications at all. But using the diagnostic port to remap an ECU (which is outside the capabilities of VAG-COM software) would be another matter entirely.
