alternator cable

Featured Replies

posted before about the alternator cable heating up and melting the plastic fuse box on battery, after a long run in the car I have now decided to replace it.

what I was wondering is can I just replace the thick black wire on its own? i noticed its inside a sleeve along with other wires but is this just one thick wire from start to finish or does it branch off anywhere?

Its a multi cable with feeds to other units. Ill try and find a pic.

There are four wires. Two go the a/c clutch. The other two go the alternator. The four wires share a common connector that sits in a bracket above the starter motor. You can replace just the large cable (and the fuse box), but you need to be aware that the smaller wires are often brittle and can break when they get manhandled.
