Whoops - popped off a hose!

Featured Replies

Don't worry this isn't a "my car's super fast" story...

I was at the roundabout yesterday to get on to my private motorway and a Honda S2000 shot round and onto the sliproad. I pulled in behind him and we followed a wagon down. So I though "he's going to floor it - wonder if I can keep up". So I had a go. He shot off - I floored it - in fourth at about 60, kept up with him reasonably well, I was pleasantly surprised. Then I glanced at the speedo - just over 120 and he was still accelerating.

"Whoops", I thought, and eased off back to 75.

The next time I pressed the accelerator, instead of going faster, the car seemed to pull back, and there was a loud whooshing of air from the engine.

So I pulled over, removed the engine cover and one of the pipes from the diverter valve had popped. It was one of the ones I had off to fit the DV30, so my own fault! Fortunately the jubilee clip was still balanced in the engine a bit further down so I was able to fish it out and sort the problem.

It must have been working loose for ages! :)
