Air Con Fault

Featured Replies

Having just had my air con regassed 2 weeks ago ,its gone back to a bit cold rather than ice cold and appears to have developed a leak. I took it back to the air con guy who checked the system over who checked with the uv light for leaks ,non found , then he used a device that sniffed for leaks, everything again appeared fine right up to the bulk head, he then used it in the cabin and it picked up a leak behind the centre consul, conclusion being heat exchanger leaking , that's when he started shying off saying it's not a job for me I don't fancy it ! apparently it's £100 for the part and 5 or 6 hrs labour for the dash to come out !

Anyhow I was wondering if any of the forum members have had a similar experience and could recommend any of these sealing kits for sale that they have had some success with , similar thing to sealing your heating at home etc , surely it must be worth throwing £20 £30 at this rather than an expensive bill.

Thanks in advance for any help

If it's leaking at the evaporator then it's a pig of a job. IIRC, book time for this job is longer than 6 hours. The stop leak products don't seem to work on the evaporators of these cars, but they do mess up other components such as the drier.

Thanks for that , would it be all these products or polymer based , I spoke to the air con guy this morning and he said a lot of the guys he has spoken to since ,have recommended a product that can only be bought from the states , he recons that it's got a 70% success rate and doesn't clog the system up as he wouldn't use anything that could potentially clog his system up to whilst doing it ?
