Why does MP3 album artwork not always display?

Featured Replies

I have made sure that all MP3 tracks on my SD card have album artwork embedded into each track, but the display of this artwork on the screen of my Bolero head unit in my Octavia 3 seems totally unreliable. Some tracks do display, some don't.

I can't say for certain as I haven't entirely bottomed this out yet, but I think that some tracks display artwork sometimes, but not other times? What are others experiences with this, and does anyone know if there is some magic trick to the way in which the artwork must be embedded to make it work 100%?

I hate the way in which the crappy SD card representation is displayed instead of the correct artwork when tracks are playing...

It's supposed to be embedded as an "ID3 Tag" there is an additional option in ITunes to do this, I've not got around to testing it yet though.

Interesting. Does this mean that artwork is not normally embedded as an ID3 tag by iTunes? I can't find where one specifies this within iTunes - can you give me any idea how to do it?

Also I have been using a great little application called Tagr which is separate from iTunes to make sure that the artwork is definitely embedded into the file correctly. So I am not sure that your helpful suggestion applies.

Does anyone know if this Tagr or a similar program is available for Windows operating systems?

Years ago...many, many, many - I bought Tag and Rename. Many others out there of greater and lesser use.

From what I've read, it's all in the software/implementation. All I can suggest is trying different tpes/sizes of images to try to narrow down the problem.

I have now ensured that all artwork is maximum size of 500x500 in JPEG format and the tags do definitely conform to ID3 (v2.1 and 2.4 UTF-8, apparently). Any ideas why they still don't display?

By the way, I can't imagine what technical reason there could be for a maximum of 500x500, and this is particularly weak when it seems like the standard size (if there is one) for artwork in new MP3s is commonly 600x600.
