SD card for Amundsen

Featured Replies

I know that the SD card for the nav in the Amundsen is a "special" SKODA one, and am aware that the issue of the nav SD has been discussed in other threads. However it is not clear to me  from those threads whether you can use a legitimate Skoda SD card from a different Amundsen unit in another Octavia. Is that possible? Is it a straight swap? Or does it need special coding?

The reason I ask is that I've just been quoted £230 bya Skoda dealer for a replacement nav SD card which I think is ridiculous.

Thanks MM

Suck it and see... but I'd be surprised if the card is tied to the car in any way, especially as you update the card yourself with new maps downloaded from the Internet.

And the £230 is another reason to avoid SD card based nav systems - by the time you've lost the card once or twice, you might as well have paid for the Columbus to start with!

If it's anything like the Amundsen in the MK2 Octavia the card can only be used in one car then it's useless.

I'll try and test this out, myself and a work colleague both have the same cars, hopefully this week sometime we'll be in the same place !

That would be great!

I would have taken a punt and bought a second hand one, but the price of even used (genuine) Skoda SD cards is steep. I've been quoted from £40 to £120 so far.

I quite agree that SD based systems are a PITA but I shied away from an £800 upgrade to Columbus when I ordered my Elegance. I know others will disagree, but it just did not make economic sense to me.

Hopefully we'll be in the same place at the same time sometime this week. Shame I didn't see this this morning, could have tried it then.
