Removing Rear Seats

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone know if the rears seats could be removed (and replaced) easily or is it more troubled then its worth?

Thanks

James

Was surprised the rear seat lower doesn't fold up to create a fully flat mega boot.

Dunno how easy it is to actually remove it though, have you managed to ruin them already??

No, seats are like new, just moving house and looking to maximise load capacity.

It's a company car and did order removable rear seats as was an option but don't think it came with it (or even know if it exists. But after massive wait I wasn't going to send it back.

I can lift the seat bases and they unclip at the front but something is holding them at the rear and I'm loathed to pull too hard!

When looking at a demonstrator at the dealers I asked if the squab folded forward to give a flat load space. Sales rep and I tried... If you pull hard enough at the back of the squab it comes up, but the seat back is longer than the space where the squab was so you still don't get a flat load space.

Not much help I know, but on the combi you do get a flat loadspace and there is sufficient clearance so that you don't have to remove the rear headrests either.

Really is a bit of an odd design anomaly as I believe both the combi and the hatchback have identifical external dimensions.

Are you saying you can remove/lift the rear seat on an estate. With just the backs folded down on mine it's not flat. From memory there is also a step.

I attach a picture. Not terribly good, but I hope it answers the question. Rear seat back on right hand side not completely flat in the picture because there was something on the  seat squab when I took the picture.

I've not tried removing the rear seat - not needed to as there is a flat load area with the seat backs fully down. This obviously has the VBF - there would not be a flat area if there were no VBF floor fitted.

I see you have a 4x4 estate - is it not identical to my picture? Does this help or have I misunderstood?

I would add that I also like the quick release/auto fold down levers for the rear seat backs in the rear boot area of the Mk3 - much improved release arrangement over my previous Mk2 combi.
