DMF Failure Signs/Sounds

Featured Replies

Posted many times before about sounds from the TFSI, when sat running with the clutch pedal up there's a metallic rattle but then with it pressed it it quietens down and goes.

Just worried as never had a car until now with a Dmf or VAG for that matter.

Il get a video up of it started up and running

How to do insert videos?

Not sure about the videos but my vrs tfsi did the same thing at 77k also the pedal started to vibrate when pressing the pedal.Turned out the DMF was knackered.

I'm afraid it was not a cheap fix.

Sounds like your clutch release bearing is on its way out or the DMF is rattling :(

High gear, low speed/RPM, hard acceleration.

You'll soon know if the DMF is shot as the car will judder.

Don't make me cry :( the noise seems to go when warmed up.

I have a video so if anyone knows how to let me know.

A rattle seems to he coming from the pulley on the alternator?? And the little mount next to it has some play but doesn't seem to be an addition to the rattle?

Il wack it in 6th low revs and accelerate when I'm next in it! Haha[emoji11]...

Any point in getting a single mass flywheel and clutch when cars standard but not planning on staying standard, slowing tuning?

Anyone got a link to a decent package,

That's a cheap fix if the noise is coming from the alt pulley. The clutch in the pulley on the alternator will have given up or giving up.Take it to a good garage and have them change it( the pulley can be bought separately from the alternator ) but you need a special puller from what I remember.

We had the DMF go on a Touran at work and it was more noticeable in reverse, particularly reversing up a hill.

What did it judder?

What did it judder?

To start with it did. Just before it was replaced it made the whole car shake.

Ahh right, see mines not that bad yet, if it is that, just slight rattle, sometimes there sometimes not, think il start worrying when it gets worse.

It can't effect cold starts can it? Mine are that bad sometimes now that it sounds like the cars being bumped off

That sounds a lot like the flywheel on my 2.0 PD DSG. It rattles in neutral and is more noticeable when it's cold, although you can hear it all the time. It has been doing this for the past 20,000 miles that I have owned it and probably for a while before that.

It also causes the engine to hunt for idle just after start up.....only for a second or less.

Yours sounds like what mine was like 20,000 miles ago. It has hardly gotten any worse in the time since I first noticed it, and I also will start worrying about it when it gets much worse.

Yeah doesn't seem to hunt for idle either, obviously goes up to like 12,000 revs warming up then drops after a min when it's warmed up but that's it. Think il get that alternator pulley sorted first, anyone know the part number or have a link to it would be great help! Just an annoying rattle which I don't need

If your car goes to 12000 RPM on idle I think you have bigger problems than DMF failure! :P

On a serious note; my TFSI has made the same sound for the last year; hasn't gotten any worse yet. Nothing to worry about, clutches are wear items anyway. Just do the DMF as a precaution when you next change the clutch.

Haha mayyyyybbeee I added an extra 0 haha, but yeah I was thinkin, when I eventually need a new clutch just go New OEM DMF and Uprated helix.

Wants the name for the Alternator pulley clutch thingy majigy

HI, just to throw my ten penny’s worth in!

Just had my 1.6 tdi 4 x 4 in for a number of issues after getting it from Skoda in Newcastle . I’ve only had it 3 weeks so luckily under warranty and will be fixed FOC , but my local dealer in Cramlington highlighted a rubbing sound when engine was on, like you say press clutch and it goes away.

So car been to garage to have a look at it and it does need a new flywheel and all parts, plus a new  housing? Due to potential scoring……by one of the teeth which seems to be the issue here (not that technical). Car is 3yrs old and only done 12k miles!

We had a 1.9 tdi PD 08 plate with DMF rattling. Had the flywheel and clutch replaced at a local independent in July 2013 and it's been bang on [emoji106]
